INTEL NEWS MEDIA CHAT ON EDO GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION
The Intel News media chat which held on the 22nd of August, 2020, regarding the forth-coming Edo Governorship election, Centered discussions on the following sub-topics;
The Two Main political Parties in the Contest (PDP & APC): Not to dwarf the chances and capabilities of other political parties in the contest, discussants made it obvious in our discussions that the top two political parties with higher chances of winning where the All progressive Congress (APC), and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and their respective candidates; Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the APC and the incumbent Governor of the State, Godwin Obaseki of the PDP. Therefore following discussions centered on both candidates.
The Two Main Candidates (Obaseki Vs Ize-Iyamu): Discussants were able to throw light on the personalities of the two candidates, especially on their political antecedents. A much greater scrutiny was thrown on the incumbent Governor and the candidate of the PDP, Godwin Obaseki, whom has governed the state in almost 4 years now; his developmental strides in the state, shortcomings and his quest for re-election. Also the political journey of Ize-Iyamu the candidate of the APC was recounted since his entry in politics back in 1999 and his consistent desire to become the state’s governor. Discussants sampled opinions on his personality and past political records, and if he could make a better Governor than the incumbent?
The Edo State House of Assembly Saga: Discussants condemned the unscrupulous event surrounding the Edo House of Assembly Saga, the barring of duly elected members of the State House of Assembly from accessing the Assembly complex and carrying out their Legislative duties peacefully.
Threat to Life of the State Deputy Governor: Regarding allegations from the Deputy Governor of the State, Comr. Philip Shuaib, that there is a threat on his Life; discussants called on the police to investigate the threats and provide adequate security for the person of the Deputy Governor.
Alleged Plans to Rig the Election: Regarding the allegations, accusations and counter accusations from various political parties, politicians and some stakeholders participating in the forthcoming election, of possible plans to rig the election; discussants unanimously called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, and the security agencies to make sure that the people of Edo have a Free, Fair and Credible election, as only that could be accepted as Just to the people of the state, maintain peace and strengthen our democracy.
Conclusively: Discussants unanimously called for a peaceful election in Edo, while calling on security agencies to assiduously work on mitigating electoral and post electoral violence in the state. And finally, discussants called on Edolites to make the best choice in the forthcoming election, regarding the development of their state especially with regards to teaming youth unemployment and other sundry issues that the people of the state would like to see an effective governance handled.
